Introducing VOS 360 CloudLinks - Prerequisites

In order to deploy CloudLinks for VOS 360, please see below:

Prerequisites:


1. CloudLink host hardware specifications:

Option 1:
  • For up to 600Mbps and 30 channels egress
  • CPU version: E5-2697 v3 or above
  • Memory: 64 GB or more
  • Network interfaces: 1 as a minimum (2 maximum) 
Option 2:
  • For up to 1Gbps and 45 channels egress 
  • CPU version: E5-2697 v4 or above
  • Memory: 256 GB or more
  • Network interfaces: 1 as a minimum (2 maximum) 

2. Ensure the following configuration for your internal network:

In order to acquire the sources, the CloudLink needs to reside in a zone in which it has access to Live IP feeds. The CloudLink will either be joining Multicast feeds using the IGMP protocol (join), or receiving Unicast feeds of the sources. In either case, feeds should be in an SPTS form (Single Program Transport Streams) and / or MPTS (Multi Program Transport Streams) wrapped in MPEG2TS and carried over UDP.


3. Ensure the following configuration for your external network:

For the CloudLink to contribute the content to VOS 360 infrastructure for processing, the CloudLink needs to be able to make outbound connection to the internet, which allows the CloudLink to register and send live video content to your own private and secure VOS environment. The contribution feeds must use HTTPS and UDP. For UDP, the CloudLink expects to receive return packets from the same IP and port that it sent packets to for error recovery purposes.

For the CloudLink to contribute the content over the public network, the upload bandwidth from the site harboring the sources should be able to contain the aggregated lineup bitrates. For example, if you are uploading two channels at 5 Mbps each, make sure that your upload bandwidth is 10.5 Mbps.

The upload bandwidth must be negotiated with your local ISP (Internet Service Provider).

For both CentOS and Windows network environments, a DHCP server is required to allocate IP addresses for the single or multiple interfaces used by the CloudLink software. 


4. Ensure that your operating system environment is prepared for VOS CloudLink OVA VM:

The VOS CloudLink software arrives as an OVA container. As such, it can be introduced to any operating system (Windows, Linux, or Mac OSX) that can host a virtualization application. 


5. After installing your operating system of choice to the hardware / appliance host, ensure that you install the proper virtualization package for the CloudLink OVA VM:

Installing on VMware EXSI: 
Installing on VirtualBox:

    6. Log in to the VOS Hub (https://www.vos.tv) with your Harmonic ID, and download the VOS CloudLink OVA VM to the hardware / appliance host.

    Is it correct that the number of ingress and egress channels should be the same for Cloudlink?

    No requirements on matching number of ingress and egress channels on the CloudLink. 

    If the question is really about scaling then it depends on what the input and outputs are ATS with lots of profiles takes more resources than a single SPTS input.

    Is there any benefit in using SSD rather than disk storage with Cloudlink?

    CloudLink doesn't use disk so we don't care about whether the virtual drive is spinning or solid.
